Meals to be given away at The Chef and the Frog

By: The News Reporter

Two hundred meals will be given away for the next five Wednesdays beginning May 6 at The Chef and the Frog in downtown Whiteville. Owners of The Chef and the Frog, Sokun and Guillaume Slama and former Whiteville resident Rick Edwards saw news reports about hungry people in their community during the coronavirus economic downturn. Through planning with the Columbus Jobs Foundation, The Chef and the Frog, Edwards, Sysco Foods and anonymous donors, a total of 1,000 meals will be served in a five-week period. “Two hundred meals will be given away on a first-come, first-served basis for the next five Wednesdays,” said Guillaume Slama. Curbside pick-up will be at noon at The Chef and the Frog, 607 S. Madison St., in downtown Whiteville. Dates are May 6, 13, 20, 27 and June 3. Whiteville Police will provide a lane on the northbound side of Madison. The vehicle staging area will be on East Main Street near Vineland Station. Each box will contain a cooked meal adequate to feed three to four people. One box will be given away per car. For those who would like to support this effort, donate to the Columbus Jobs Foundation, 111 Washington Street, Whiteville, North Carolina 28472, 910-640-6608.
