Anyone interested in a new career opportunity is encouraged to attend pre-employment skills classes at Southeastern Community College in the coming weeks. The college is partnering with S & A Railroad Ties, LLC to offer pre-employment skills classes in for prospective employees.
All classes will meet Monday through Thursday on the college campus in T-building, room 122. Interested individuals will need to participate in one of the following sessions: Sept. 26–Oct. 6 from 8:30 a.m.– 12:30 p.m.; Sept. 26–Oct. 6 from 5:30 p.m.–9:30 p.m.; Oct. 10–20 from 8:30 a.m.–12:30 p.m.; or Oct. 10–20 from 5:30 p.m.–9:30 p.m.
Pre-registration is required for the classes for S & A Railroad Ties, LLC. To pre-register, call the Columbus County NC Works Career Center at (910) 642-7141, ext. 261 or visit the Center located in A-building at SCC.
Per the employer’s request, all applications must include proof of S & A Railroad Ties Pre-Employment Skills Training (HRD) class completion. Upon completion of the HRD course, the prospective employee will go to the Coastal Group Staffing, 2268 James B. White Highway, Whiteville, 910-642-4443, to continue the application process. The HRD certificate must be presented to complete the pre-application process.
S & A Railroad Ties, LLC renews, recycles and repurposes railroad ties and other forms of treated wood. The company will be bringing the railroad ties and other treated wood in from four other states to Columbus County, where the wood will be graded for quality. The majority of the wood will be chipped and used as feedstock for an alternative energy product to be produced at the former Georgia Pacific plant in Whiteville.
